Listed below are my favorite local charities, which I support financially or otherwise.
Miriam's Kitchen- Over 1200 people annually roll up their sleeves and help Miriam's serve breakfast to those who are homeless in Washington, DC. It's a well run organization that was recognized in 2008 as "one of the best small charities in the Greater Washington region," according to the Catalogue for Philanthropy. My wife and I have been regular volunteers since December 2007 working one or two days per month, and I heartily recommend them to anyone looking to help a worthy cause.
Catholic Business Network of Prince George's County - CBN-PG was founded in 1997 to provide business networking opportunites among it's members though monthly networking breakfasts and to support Catholic education in Prince George's County via scholarships and direct contributions to County schools. A Wider Circle - This is my newest "favorite" charity, whose mission is to "help individuals lift themselves out of poverty." Numerous programs provide basic need items like furniture and beds, education young mothers and assistance tot hose living in public housing. It's obvioulsy succeeding because A Wider Circle was recently named “one of the finest small charities Greater Washington has to offer” by the Catalogue for Philanthropy.
